Because Botany means more than Plants
My name is Patrick, I'm a creative and highly enthusiastic German scientist in the field of cyanobacteria, green algae, lichens and plants. I'd like to share my thoughts here and connect to lay persons as well as to professionals of my field by offering excursions and talks. Read through my personal science blog, find me on Instagram, support me via Patreon or check out my research articles.
My Story and Thoughts
Already as a child I had this intense kind of connection with plants which I still have based on my house plants but I managed to bring this interest for greens on a professional level at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. With diligence and a lot of passion I reached a personal milestone in 2019 by earning a phd degree. Since late 2019 I'm a postdoc at the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern at the department Logistics and Polymer Sciences where I can continue my research on cyanobacteria with the focus on biotechnology.
During my studies I worked on cyanobacteria, green algae and lichens from the most extreme environment on our planet - both poles and the Atacama Desert. I travelled to the Atacama Desert several times driven by the question how these microorganisms can influence ecosystems from their micro habitat to the landscape scale. Since that time I have developed several methods to elucidate their hidden species richness and beauty, including molecular approaches, several microscopic techniques as well as ecophysiological measurements and bio-weathering experiments.
