Although the pandemic made it really hard for us to plan and conduct our first field trip to the National Park Pan de Azucar in the Atacama Desert of Chile we made it. My colleague and me are in the desert from 09.02. to 05.03.2022 and we are more than excited!
The trip and the work is within the scope of my DFG funded research project Grit Life where we will be able to take samples and prepare experiments.
We will not only chose research plots close to our already existing climate stations but we will also select one new site where we establish a new climate station in addition to the three existing ones. Finally we will also meet our Chilean collaborators in person who will join us. Together a workshop is planned for the rangers of the National Park so that we can communicate our science, goals and activities.
